APW - Waltham, Riverside Maximus marked "Non-Magnetic," 21J, Model 1888, 16S, 14K gold OF original Roy case with initial to rear, gold cuvette, white enamel DS dial with script "Waltham A.W.W.Co." signature as typical to this mvt model/grade combination, SW-SS, fully capped lever escapement, three visible diamond endstones, non-magnetic alloy balance wheel and hairspring, "Non-Magnetic" marking to dial plate below balance wheel, ornate nickel damascene, s#6506795. Gross weight of assembled watch 61.2 dwt (95.3 g). A very rare variant of this high grade watch, Waltham records show a total production of 851 made of the open face Model 1888 Riverside Maximus but among this total only a notably low fraction were produced with non-magnetic balance assembly and marking.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running after a sluggish start, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces with few micro-fine scratches, small marring tight around stem detent screw, larger winding wheel with a small perimeter spot with surface rub and pitting where it appears some oxide was likely removed, some small bits of oxide elsewhere to winding wheels, some oxide to regulator assembly; dial with scattered hls, patched edge chip under bezel at 5; fine hands, hour with oxide to its spade, seconds-hand with oxide in a few areas; case shows very little wear, no dents or dings, excellent engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows ample wear; good glass crystal.
